About The Authors & Illustrator
The Durples was written by Kathy Jardine and her
daughter, Ashley. Kathy has spent many years working with
special needs children, and throughout those years was
compelled to write and share her stories. The Durples, teach
children important lessons on inclusion, acceptance and
bullying with stories and music (mookaluke songs!). After
Kathy developed the idea for the Durples, Ashley was
inspired by the importance of Kathy's message and
dedicated herself to helping the book come to life. Cheryl
Shergold has brilliantly debuted her Illustrator skills in The
Durples: Go to School and also harbours a deep passion for
this project.
Cheryl Todd-Shergold, is a self taught artist
from Alberta Canada that has always believed "Art is in
everyone". With four wonderful kids to keep her grounded
and inspired she likes to create in a variety of subjects using
different mediums. The majority of my work is done in oils but
I like to experiment. It keeps life fun and interesting! Once I
had picked up a paint brush I never looked back. Painting is
my sanctuary. I lose myself everyday into a world of no limits.
Color is my guiding principal. I look at a box of paints and my
mind starts moving. I hope that by viewing my art you smile
out loud. Thank you for taking the time to look at my work. If
you have had a moment of enjoyment then my journey has
been worthwhile. More of Cheryl's artwork can be found at

Ashley Jardine, the
daughter of Kathy Jardine, is
animated by her mother's
passion for children. After
reading her mother's ideas for
the Durples, and having such a
deep appreciation for the
message, she dedicated
herself to the successful
completion of this project.
Ashley has contributed by:
writing, re-writing and illustrating
the story.
Kathy Jardine, the creator
of the Durples stories and
characters, is a wife, mother and
grandmother. Kathy's most
significant message is to never
judge appearances, as a person's
true value lies on the inside. It is
undoubtedly clear to everyone how
much she values the uniqueness of
every child and the importance of
spreading that message.
