Reviews
A great book with a potent message, exciting characters
and a storyline that will keep children interested. The
mookaluke will capture the interest of even the at-risk
students.  The important anti-bullying message was clearly
dealt with in a manner that all children will understand.

Deloris Jack, ESPB Librarian & Teacher, Canada
"I am a teacher of a grade 1 & 2 class in Australia. Our
class is made up of several different races and cultures.
The students were finding it difficult to talk about how
they were all different and didn’t understand that they are
actually all the same underneath. As a class we read your
wonderful book ‘The Durples’. The class discussions about
your book were wonderful as the students were all able to
identify their differences such as colour of their skin or
something as simple as their eye colour. A fantastic book,
and we would love to read your next one!

The Durples’ story has an important message, and you
and your mom are wonderful advocates for creating safe
and caring communities for all children.  I can see that
this colorful book will be enjoyed by children and is an
effective way for parents and teachers to talk with
children about the value of kindness, respect and
acceptance.

Dave Hancock, Alberta Education Minister
"Your book has a very good message to it and I think all
children should read it.

"The story in “The Durples Get Lost in Elkton Forest”
teaches you one important lesson: no matter how you
look, you are all the same inside. It is not fair to be
picked on when you, too, look weird. And you should
not pick on anybody else because of their differences.

I had an opportunity to review your book last winter

messages about diversity and acceptance, and the
importance of creating safe and caring communities.
